Blue Sky Tag

A few weeks back, Rosie from La Grenouille Anglaise nominated me for the Blue Sky Tag, which is a great way to find out a few things about bloggers that you might not necessarily get to know. Thank you so much for the nomination – I really appreciate it!! Rosie blogs about hiking, baking (I think she has as big a sweet tooth as I do!), travel, and life in and around Lyon in France.

So let’s get on with the tag…

Questions:

1. If you could travel through time, which year (past or future) would you travel to and why?

I’d travel to 2217 just to see how much we’ve changed the planet over the course of 200 years. Are we all cyborgs by this point? Is Earth basically a wasteland with very little life left? Have all humans been wiped out by a virus?

Alternatively, I would loooooooooooove to travel back in time to Ancient Egypt. It’s been a source of fascination for me since we did a project on it back in primary school – I remember making a pendant with my name written in hieroglyphics,  and I’m pretty sure there’s still a cat mummy piggy bank made from a Pringles tube lying around the attic back home at my parents’ house.

2. Tomorrow, you’re moving to Mars. How would you spend your last day on Earth?

Climbing a hill during the day, a big dinner with family and friends, and ending the evening by playing board games.

3. What makes you tick?

Determination and drive to succeed; I’m pretty ambitious. Can you tell I’m a Slytherin?!

4. Spring or autumn?

Autumn because I love the colour of the leaves…and because there’s some residual heat around from summer, so running outside is still very pleasant (in Glasgow anyway).

5. Do you believe in life after death?

This is a tricky one. One part of me thinks that life is ultimately meaningless (unless we decide to give it meaning) and that death is the inevitable conclusion and that’s that. Once we’re gone, we’re gone. However, there’s another part of me that thinks it’d be quite cool to come back as a vampire or a ghost or something.

6. Which book is next on your TBR list?

I can only pick one?!? Fool’s Assassin by Robin Hobb. The final book in one of my favourite trilogies by my favourite author. This came out in the UK when I was in Spain and I’m not letting myself buy it until I finish reading the three or four books I currently have on the go.

7. What’s your favourite pancake topping?

I’m a maple syrup and skooshy cream kinda gal.

8. Describe your dream job.

Ooooooooohhhh…I’d love to either translate fiction (or do something else in the publishing line) because I love books, or do something related to politics. Working for the European Parliament in some capacity would have been ideal (especially given I speak French and Spanish and could brush up on my German after 7 years of not using it), but given Brexit is now a thing I’m not sure how likely a career path that is for me anymore.

9. What’s your favourite thing about your hometown?

Besides my family and friends, my favourite thing about my home town is definitely how good it is for doing outdoor activities. There are hills with great trails for running, walking, and cycling. In a similar vein, there are miles and miles of pavement along the shore which is also fantastic for running on.

10. What do you never travel without?

I might do a full post on this somewhere down the line, but I never travel without some form of reading material (either a physical book or two, or my kindle).

11. Is there a philosophy that underpins your life?

Not so much a philosophy as such , but I try to be positive, kind, and respectful in all areas of my life.
